Don't you love nice cold water on a hot summer day? Beaker and the Professor love to drink (and play with!) water...

Did you know these facts about water?
Every person in America uses about 160 gallons of water a day.

2/3 of the water your family uses is used in the bathroom.

You use 2 gallons of water to brush your teeth (unless you turn off the faucet while you brush).

Families turn on faucets about 70 times a day.

Try this experiment
You can "make" water!
Water is a chemical. It’s made of two gases, hydrogen and oxygen. Water acts like a gas sometimes (when it evaporates) but we usually think of water as a liquid – something wet.

You can make hydrogen and oxygen join to form water. Here’s how...

You will need:
a birthday candle
a plate
a clear drinking glass or jar
a match or lighter
an adult to help you with the match or lighter (this part is VERY IMPORTANT!!)

Have an adult set the candle on the plate and light it.

Cover the burning candle with the clear glass or jar (it should be big enough to cover the whole candle).

like this

When the candle goes out, look closely at the inside of the glass. What do you see?

The tiny drops of liquid inside the glass are water! The hydrogen in the candle joined with the oxygen in the air to form water. The candle flame went out when all of the oxygen in the air inside the glass was used up.

Events   |  Summer 2010

Summertime goes by quickly...
Long lazy sunny days, vacation plans, starry nights - the pleasures of summer are finally here, and there's lots to do at the Professor's house!

Do you use Twitter? Be sure to follow @profpennypickle for up to the minute news on events and notes from Professor Pennypickle!

As always, be sure to reserve your tickets early for Pennypickle's special events so that you won't be left out! Check back VERY SOON to see everything and to make your reservations.

Pajamarama Family Camp-Out
Friday, July 30, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Unfortunately, the Professor decided that camping out in the parking lot may not work this time, so he has planned a very fun camp-IN!

Join us as we pretend that we are camping right here inside the Professor's house - no tents required. Stars, marshmallows, and using our imaginations will all be on the agenda this evening.

Tickets are $5 per person and may be purchased at the door, or call 951-308-6376 to pre-register.

Hot Summer Knights
Friday, August 6, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

You are bound to have a fun "knight" learning about castles, armor, catapults, and everything medieval. Don't forget to display your most chivalrous manners! (Did you know that the word, "chivalry", comes from the French word, "chevalerie", which really means "skills to handle a horse". Later the meaning changed to that of an idealistic code of conduct that a knight would obey. Interesting, yes?)

Bring your shield if you think you'll need it.

Tickets for Hot Summer Knights are $5 per person. They may be purchased here and will be held for you at the door.

Beaker's Little Birthday
Sunday, August 8, all sessions

Professor Pennypickle had a huge birthday bash - but Beaker is more comfortable with just a miniature party - and that means LITTLE! Help celebrate in Beaker's mini style with lots of teeny tiny fun and surprises.

Tickets are $5 per person and may be purchased at the door, or call 951-308-6376 to pre-register.

Color Science
Friday, August 13, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Plan to invent your own personal who-knows-what-design as we move some molecules around with color-exploding science that's not even messy. (Too bad. The Professor likes messy. But he's excited about this technique, too!)

Tickets for Color Science are $5 per person. They may be purchased here and will be held for you at the door.

Toying with Trajectories
Friday, August 20, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Wow... a chance to launch projectiles! The Professor and Beaker can't wait. Catapults and trebuchets are some of their favorite things.

Tickets for Toying with Trajectories are $5 per person. They may be purchased here and will be held for you at the door.

Science of Self-Defense
Friday, August 27, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Parents, if you have concerns about how your child would react if his or her well-being was threatened, this is an evening you won't want to miss. Basic self-defense moves and tactics will be demonstrated in a comfortable, non-frightening manner. Space is limited.

Tickets for Science of Self-Defense are $5 per person. They may be purchased here and will be held for you at the door.
